Palo Alto City Council Considering Vaping Product Ban
The council is set to consider a proposal by three members that would ban e-cigarette sales in the city, citing health risks.
PALO ALTO, CA — Amid growing concerns about the health risks associated with vaping, members of the Palo Alto City Council are proposing a law that would ban the sale of e-cigarettes and other vaping products in the city.
The proposal was put forward by three council members, and comes on the heels of reports showing the popularity of vaping at local schools, Palo Alto Online reported. The city's Human Relations Commission urged the council to consider a ban during a meeting in October.
The memo by the three council members calls on the city to pass an urgency ordinance banning e-cigarette sales, identify new laws that could prevent minors from ordering e-cigarette products online, and fund up to $25,000 in youth programs that discourage e-cigarette use.
