Palo Alto Fire Crews Respond To Backyard Fire

Breaking: A fence, a gazebo and a hot tub were damaged in the blaze at a home in the city's Ventura neighborhood.

PALO ALTO, CA -- Crews from the Palo Alto Fire Department extinguished a fire Tuesday that broke out in the backyard of a home in the city's Ventura neighborhood.

Multiple engine crews responded to the blaze, which was reported just before 11:45 a.m. in the 400 block of Fernando Avenue, near El Camino Real, Palo Alto fire Battalion Chief Ryan Stoddard confirmed.

A Twitter user posted video of billowing smoke coming from the vicinity of the fire.

Because flames were believed to be coming from the home, engine crews from the neighboring city of Mountain View were called to assist.

But according to Stoddard, the additional crews were called off when it was determined that the fire was confined to the backyard of the home near Boulware Park and Matadero Creek.

A fence adjoining two homes was ablaze, he said, as was a pile of outdoor gardening equipment.

A gazebo and hot tub were damaged in the fire, Stoddard told Patch, but the homes were not.

No injuries were reported and the blaze remained under investigation Tuesday afternoon, he said.
