Palo Alto Hiker Rescued After Going Missing In Fresno County

FRESNO, CA — On Tuesday, the Fresno County Sheriff's Office rescued a Palo Alto woman who was reported missing Sunday by a hiking group she was with.

Jolly Bose, 49, was uninjured after spending 48 hours in the elements, the sheriff's office said. Bose "endured five inches of snow and overnight temperatures in the teens."

On Sunday afternoon, hikers reported Bose missing; she was last seen on a ridge east of White Bark Vista and Dusy Ershim Trail, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office Search and Rescue (SAR) team looked for her around the clock. Tuesday afternoon, rescuers in an FCSO helicopter spotted Bose near Ershim Lake, about four and a half miles away from where she was reported missing, according to the FCSO.

The rescue crew took Bose to the Sheriff's Office command post, where she reunited with her family and friends.

The sheriff's office says 35 deputies and volunteers looked for Bose, on the ground as well as with drones, airplanes, helicopters, horses, Jeeps, and ATVs.

"The remote search area was at an elevation of more than 10,000 feet and experiencing snowy, icy conditions," the sheriff's office said in a news release.

Yosemite National Park, the California Office of Emergency Services, and the Marin County Sheriff SAR team also helped with the search.
