Palo Alto PD Brings Back National Night Out For 2018
The event is being brought back to Palo Alto after a 10-year absence. Neighborhoods and HOAs are encouraged to return a participation form.

PALO ALTO, CA – The Palo Alto Police Department announced Monday that it is reintroducing National Night Out after a decade-long absence, with the goal of making it once again an annual tradition in the city.Neighborhoods throughout Palo Alto are invited to participate in National Night Out, a campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood safety, PAPD Spokeswoman Janine De la Vega said in a news release.
Scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018, National Night Out is when residents are asked to lock their doors, turn on their front porch lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and law enforcement. Some may host a block party, a cookout at a park, or some other community gathering.
"We are making our officers and emergency personnel available to those holding a National Night Out event as we value the importance of building relationships with residents," De la Vega said. "We will also have an area set up outside our police department located on Forest Avenue with officers outside to greet the community and socialize."

NNO helps spread awareness about crime prevention programs and the impact that citizens of Palo Alto can have on reducing crime, drugs and violence in the city.
"Local neighborhoods and homeowners’ associations play a critical role in assisting the police department in these efforts and can help make our neighborhoods safer," De le Vega said.
