Palo Alto PD Increases Overnight Patrols After Burglary At Occupied Home

Palo Alto police are increasing overnight patrols after a home was burglarized while its residents were sleeping late Sunday night into Monday morning, police said today.
Shortly before 8:30 a.m. Monday, police dispatch received a report from a resident of an intrusion that happened overnight at their home in the 4200 block of Wilkie Way. Officers responded to the home but were unable to find the suspect, police said.
An investigation indicated that the suspect entered the home through a side door left unlocked sometime after 11 p.m. Sunday, according to police. The suspect then rummaged through rooms on the ground floor and stole multiple electronic devices, police said. The residents were sleeping on the second floor and were not aware of the intrusion until they went downstairs that morning, according to police.

The last overnight burglary at an occupied home in the city happened in July 2014 and detectives are looking into whether it is related to the one on Wilkie Way, police said. Police are increasing overnight patrols in city neighborhoods in light of the burglary, according to police.
