Palo Alto Police Arrest Man With Stolen Handgun

Police in Palo Alto on Tuesday arrested a man who was allegedly in possession of a stolen handgun.

PALO ALTO, CA — Police in Palo Alto on Tuesday arrested a man who was allegedly in possession of a stolen handgun.

Juan Pedro Vargas Pinzon, 21, of East Palo Alto, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a loaded firearm and carrying a concealed firearm, according to the Palo Alto Police Department.

On Tuesday at 3:35 a.m., officers on patrol observed a suspicious vehicle illegally parked in the 400 block of Waverly Street.

Police said the blue 2018 Nissan Altima was in the red zone adjacent to the driveway of a 7-Eleven convenience store with the engine running.

The occupant of the vehicle looked to be asleep behind the wheel, police said.

Officers contacted the man and saw a black handgun on the front seat and within the man's reach.
The man was taken into custody without incident, and the 9mm semi-automatic handgun was found to be loaded and equipped with a high-capacity magazine.

Police said the gun had been reported stolen in Houston in 2017.
