Shake Shack Coming To Palo Alto

Northern California's first Shake Shack is opening in Palo Alto. The company also has plans for spots in Marin and the Marina District.

PALO ALTO, CA – A popular burger-and-shake chain is coming to Northern California.

Shake Shack plans to open its first Bay Area restaurant this fall in Palo Alto. The fast casual restaurant will open its doors at Stanford Shopping Center at 180 El Camino Real.

The company also has plans for locations in Marin County and the Marina District of San Francisco.

Randy Garutti, Shake Shack's chief executive officer, said in a statement that the company has "long admired the talented chefs, winemakers and artisans of the Bay Area's vibrant food scene."

"It is with great respect and humility that we enter that landscape, deepen our West Coast roots, and bring a new community gathering place to this iconic city after so many years," he said.

The chain is known for its burgers, crinkle-cut fries and hand-spun shakes. The menu also features a chicken sandwich, hot dogs and frozen custard treats.

The original Shake Shack started as a hot dog cart in 2004 in New York City's Madison Square Park. Since then, the company has expanded to more than 100 locations in the United States and more than 50 locations in other countries. In California, Shake Shack currently has seven locations in Los Angeles and San Diego.
