A grand reopening for Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in San Pedro is set for this weekend, following two years of upgrades, including to the life support system for the fish.
A ribbon cutting is set for 10 am on Saturday, April 18 at the aquarium, located at 3720 Stephen M. White Dr., San Pedro. A renovated exhibit hall and new collections room will make their public debut at the event.
About $8 million in upgrades have been performed at the 23,000 square foot facility over the course of a couple of years. The main exhibit hall is reopening after being closed for 18 months.
The reopening is being held in conjunction with Earth Day events, so there will also be a beach cleanup from 9 am to noon.
Other activities associated with the event include educational films, tours, puppet shows, food trucks and more. Attendance is free, but parking is $1 per hour.
More information is available on the aquarium's website.
