The Awards celebrate authors, illustrators, writers, producers and directors, whose work “affirms the highest values of the human spirit” and reflect the Christopher motto, “It’s better to light one candle than to curse the darkness” which also guides the organization’s publishing and radio programs. Christopher Awards were also given to creators of 9 TV/Cable shows and feature films.

The book: While baking a special cake for the feast of Santa Marija with her granddaughter, a Maltese grandmother revisits her memories of survival, hope, and life under siege during World War II.

In addition to “The Memory Cake,” Perry is the award-winning author of “I Am Not Grumpy!,” “I Am Not Happy!,” “Messi’s Magic,” and “The Corgi and the Queen.” Her love of storytelling began at a young age. Shaped in part by her Maltese heritage, in which the sharing of stories, food and traditions are deeply intertwined, she sought refuge in books. As a child, libraries were both her sanctuary and her happy place and these days, not much has changed!

A lifelong adventurer, Perry has lived on three continents and explored more than 65 countries. She feels most at home in nature, whether swimming with whale sharks and giant manta rays, trekking through rainforests in search of sloths, coming face-to-face with a “mega pride” of lions on safari, or helping release more than 900 baby sea turtles while volunteering at a marine rescue facility. She is also drawn to ‘hidden histories’ and quirky, off-the-map museums.

Closer to home, she volunteers as a youth soccer coach and an elementary school writing instructor, helping young storytellers discover their voices and build confidence to share their ideas with the world.

Tony Rossi, The Christophers’ Director of Communications, said, “Mother Teresa once observed, ‘If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.’ That sense of ‘belonging to each other’ is reflected in our award-winning stories of selflessness, sacrifice, faith, and kindness that can lead us to a better, more peaceful tomorrow.”

The Christophers, a nonprofit founded in 1945 by Maryknoll Father James Keller, is rooted in the Judeo-Christian tradition of service to God and humanity.More information about The Christophers is available at www.christophers.org.Social media: #ChristopherAwards, Facebook: The Christophers / X: @ChristophersInc
