PALOS VERDES ESTATES, CA — Detectives with the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department have arrested a woman accused of financially abusing an elderly person for whom she was a caregiver, police said Wednesday.
The investigation began after a resident reported on April 13 that her caretaker, identified as Jacqueline Huey, had been using multiple credit cards and financial accounts without permission to make fraudulent purchases beginning in February, according to the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department.
Detectives conducted surveillance during the investigation and later obtained both an arrest warrant for Huey and a search warrant for her residence, police said.
On May 7, members of the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department Special Response Team served the warrants in Palmdale, where Huey was arrested without incident.
Investigators said they recovered significant evidence tied to the case, including stolen credit cards, fraudulent checks, and notebooks and ledgers allegedly documenting fraudulent activity involving numerous financial accounts.
Huey was arrested on suspicion of aggregate grand theft and elder abuse by a caretaker, police said.
Detectives believe there may be additional victims connected to the investigation, particularly seniors or vulnerable individuals who may have received caregiving assistance from Huey.
Police expressed concern that some victims may not yet realize they were targeted, while others may have suspected wrongdoing but never reported it to law enforcement.
Anyone who may have had contact with Huey in a caregiving capacity, or who knows someone she may have cared for, is encouraged to contact the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department Detective Sisson at 310-750-9833.
