PALOS VERDES ESTATES, CA — A Good Samaritan and several Palos Verdes Estates officers recently came to the aid of a cyclist who suffered a heart attack, authorities said Friday.
Martin Chen suffered the attack on June 27 and collapsed while biking in the 1500 block of Via Coronel, according to police, who said officers arrived in minutes to find Chen unconscious and not breathing, and nearby resident Koji Uemura performing CPR.
Officers took over until paramedics arrived, and Chen was revived and taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, police said.
Chen and his wife, Vivian, recently visited the involved officers — identified by the police department as Sgt. Marino, Cpl. Alvarez and Officer Blincoe — to thank them.
“We’re grateful to see Martin doing well and back on his feet,” the department said Friday in a social media post.
“Outstanding life-saving work by everyone involved! We are especially grateful to Koji for starting CPR before officers arrived. Those first few minutes made all the difference.”
