PALOS VERDES, CA — President Donald Trump is scheduled to make a rare visit to Los Angeles County on Tuesday, speaking at a Republican National Committee dinner at the Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes.
A White House official confirmed that Trump will attend the event, where he is expected to discuss his administration's economic agenda and efforts to reduce crime.
White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales told the California Post that the president would "tout his wins for the people of the Golden State" while contrasting his administration's agenda with California's Democratic leadership.
"The president will draw a sharp contrast between his commonsense agenda and the radical policies of Democrats like Gavin Newsom, who keep raising taxes, inviting rampant fraud in taxpayer-funded programs, and protecting illegal immigrant drug dealers, rapists, and murderers," Wales said.
Newsom used the president's Golden State trip as a chance to hammer Trump over inflation and his personal enrichment while in office.
"The only person Donald Trump's economy is working for is Donald Trump," he tweeted. "In 2025 alone he made billions through corrupt crypto schemes, settlements, and foreign real estate deals. Meanwhile Americans can barely afford their groceries. It's sick."
As of Monday afternoon, officials had released few details about the president's itinerary, leaving unanswered questions about how he will travel to the Palos Verdes Peninsula and whether motorists should expect traffic disruptions.
Although no official arrival plans have been announced, presidential visits to Southern California often involve Air Force One landing at Los Angeles International Airport before the president continues by helicopter or motorcade. Officials have not said whether that will be the case Tuesday.
No traffic advisories had been issued Monday by the California Highway Patrol, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department or other local agencies as they don't announce the president's route in advance for security purposes.
Residents planning to travel Tuesday, particularly near Los Angeles International Airport, the Harbor area or the Palos Verdes Peninsula, may want to allow extra time and check traffic conditions before heading out. Previous presidential visits to the Los Angeles area have resulted in temporary freeway closures, rolling traffic holds and road closures along motorcade routes, sometimes with little advance notice.
Adding to the anticipation, residents posted photos and videos on Reddit over the weekend showing military helicopters and V-22 Ospreys operating around the Trump National Golf Club. Officials have not commented on the activity, although advance aviation operations are not unusual before presidential visits.
Trump is expected to leave Southern California Tuesday night for Las Vegas, where he is scheduled to speak Wednesday on the economy and tax relief.
Trump's last official visit to California came in January 2025, when he toured communities damaged by the Palisades Fire and met with local elected officials.
