• Rancho Palos Verdes declares local emergency ahead of El Niño (dailybreeze.com) — Rancho Palos Verdes has declared a citywide local emergency ahead of a potentially very strong El Niño winter, aiming to speed up storm preparations and access to aid. Officials say the move will help fast-track storm drain work, equipment staging, and emergency responses, especially in landslide-prone areas like Portuguese Bend, though reimbursement for costs is not guaranteed.
   

• Five LA County Beach Areas Remain Under Bacteria Warnings (mynewsla.com) — Los Angeles County health officials are warning swimmers to avoid ocean water at five South Bay and coastal spots because of high bacteria levels, though Portuguese Bend in Rancho Palos Verdes has just been cleared. If you're heading to the beach, you can safely enjoy the water at Portuguese Bend, but should still check the county's hotline or map for any changing conditions nearby.
