RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CA — Motorists traveling along Palos Verdes Drive South should expect delays through Wednesday, Oct. 14, as crews continue work on a major sewer rehabilitation project involving nearly 1.5 miles of aging underground infrastructure.
According to an advisory issued Monday by the City of Rancho Palos Verdes, traffic restrictions are in effect along the oceanside lane between Seacliff Drive and Palos Verdes Drive East.
Traffic control is scheduled from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Wednesday, with motorists advised to allow additional travel time or consider alternate routes.
The restrictions are associated with the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts' Rancho Palos Verdes Trunk Sewer Repair Project, which involves rehabilitating approximately 7,500 feet of sewer pipe that has deteriorated over 60 to 70 years of service.
Rather than excavating and replacing the entire pipeline, crews are installing a lining system inside the existing sewer, a method the agency says is quicker and less disruptive than constructing a new line. Associated manholes will also be repaired.
Construction is taking place near Shoreline Park and Trump National Golf Course, with temporary above-ground sewer bypass infrastructure extending along Palos Verdes Drive South from north of Schooner Drive to Shoreline Park.
According to the Sanitation Districts, portions of the eastbound, oceanside lane will be closed intermittently during construction, with flaggers directing vehicles into the westbound lane.
The broader project began in September and is scheduled to continue through February 2027. Regular construction hours are 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays.
Residents with questions can contact Sanitation Districts resident engineer Jennifer James at 310-892-0842 or jjames@lacsd.org. After-hours problems and odor concerns can be reported to the agency's 24-hour hotline at 562-437-6520.
