Body That Washed Ashore Near San Pedro Is Missing Woman

PALOS VERDES, CA – A body that washed ashore in the San Pedro area was that of a 26-year-old woman who went missing last weekend, authorities said Friday.

Haley Downen's body was discovered about 7:45 a.m. Thursday near the 800 block of Paseo del Mar, according to Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County coroner's office. An autopsy was pending to determine her cause of death. Her hometown was not known.

Downen last had been seen about 5:15 p.m. Saturday on a shoreline trail between Royal Palms beach and the Trump National Golf Course near San Pedro, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers who searched that area had found personal property belonging to her, and authorities had sought public help to find her, the LAPD reported.
