Updated: Homicide Suspect Surrenders after 2-Hour Standoff

A Rancho Palos Verdes neighborhood endured road closures and potential evacuations during a standoff with a homicide suspect.

RANCHO PALOS VERDE, CA. A 55-year-old homicide suspect who barricaded himself in the bedroom of a Rancho Palos Verdes home was detained today along with several other people, authorities said.

The victim was identified as 29-year-old Anthony Depiazza, whose body was found last month dumped in a shallow grave in Riverside County, according to Los Angeles County sheriff’s Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez.

Investigators believe Depiazza was killed in a home in the 2000 block of Van Karajan Drive in Rancho Palos Verdes, Navarro-Suarez said.

A Special Weapons Team was deployed to that address about 11 a.m. to assist Lomita Station deputies and sheriff’s homicide detectives in the apprehension of the suspect, who was taken into custody after holing up for several hours, Navarro-Suarez said.

Detectives secured a warrant to search the Van Karajan Drive address “for any evidence related to the murder,” Navarro-Suarez said.
