Brush Fire Scorches Palos Verdes Estates Parkland

With the help of two CL-415 SuperScooper firefighting planes, firefighters were able to control a 3-acre wildfire in Palos Verdes Estate.

A brush fire scorched three acres of parkland in Palos Verdes Estates today before firefighters brought it under control.

The blaze was reported at 4:27 p.m. at the end of Via Tejon, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

It was brought under control at 5:21 and crews were expected to remain on scene mopping up for a couple of hours, officials said.

No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged.

Two CL-415 SuperScooper firefighting planes, which can carry up to 1,620 gallons of water and take only 12 seconds to scoop water and inject it with fire-resistant foam, made their seasonal debut during the firefight, according to the county fire department.

The SuperScoopers are being leased from the Quebec provincial government in Canada and arrived in the county two weeks earlier than originally scheduled.
