The Peninsula Symphony is presenting a special opportunity to hear a world class soloist playing a prestigious instrument, for no admission charge.
The soloist is Elizabeth Pitcairn and the instrument is her 1720 "Red Mendelssohn" Stradivarius violin. This is the real instrument that inspired the fictional violin depicted in the movie "The Red Violin."
There are other "Strads" in the Los Angeles area. UCLA, and the LA Phil have at least one, but it will cost $100+ at "Disney" or from half a mile away at the Hollywood Bowl. At our venue, you will be able to hear the power of a violin from Stradivarius' golden period without the influence of PA speakers.
The program features Johannes Brahms. Ms Pitcairn will play the Violin Concerto Opus 77. The orchestra will play "Tragic Overture" Op 81 and Serenade No. 2, Op 16.
