PV Art Center Exhibition Opening

PALETTEERS AND PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITIONS SET TO OPEN JUNE 29 AT PVAC

The Palos Verdes Art Center / Beverly G. Alpay Center for Arts Education presents two exhibitions: Paletteers and Photography.  One exhibition will explore works by 45 artists displaying wide-ranging talents of the Paletteers, and the other will include a diverse group of emerging and established photographers covering a wide spectrum of visions, imagery and photographic methods. The Photography Exhibition will be curated by Scott Canty, PVAC Exhibitions Director. The exhibit opens June 29, 2012, and runs through August 12, 2012, at the Palos Verdes Art Center, located at the Promenade on the Peninsula, 550 Deep Valley Drive, Suite 261, Rolling Hills Estates. Galleries and open Mondays through Saturdays 10am-4pm and Sunday 1-4pm. Opening reception is scheduled for Friday, June 29, 5-7pm. Galleries are free and open to the public.

            From detailed botanical watercolors, through impressionistic landscapes, to bold mixed-media abstractions, satiric graphic art on wood panels and animated videos, 90 works by 45 artists display the wide-ranging talents of the Paletteers. Members of this affiliate of the Palos Verdes Art Center are seasoned local artists, including instructors at PVAC and other schools. Many Paletteers have garnered awards and attracted devoted collectors of their works.

            Photography has always played an important part in the exhibition history at the Palos Verdes Art Center, and due to this rich history PVAC’s exhibitions will continue to intersect photographic based works throughout their programs and curatorial focus.  As the digital medium widens its reach into all forms of image making, the Photography Exhibition program will feature Anita Bunn, Anthony Castro, Bob Francis, Meg Madison, and Ed Martin, a diverse group of emerging and established photographers/artists who experiment and create new and innovating ways to stretch this medium into new and different approaches.
