High Surf Conditions Close Portuguese Point, Sacred Cove and Inspiration Point
Closures are in effect now through Friday. The city has also closed the trail and beach at Pelican Cove Park, between the Terranea Resort.

From the city of Rancho Palos Verdes:
Due to very high surf conditions predicted all this week, which are expected to particularly impact south-facing beaches, the Abalone Cove Safety Task Force will close Portuguese Point, Sacred Cove and Inspiration Point to the public from Tuesday, Aug. 26 through Friday, Aug. 29.
Abalone Cove Beach is proposed to remain open for the time being, as the County lifeguards will be on duty. However, if surf conditions worsen, the lifeguards may close this beach to the public as well. Click here for a summary of the current High Surf Advisory from the National Weather Service. A diagram of the closed areas in posted on the City’s Facebook page.

The city has also closed the trail and beach at Pelican Cove Park, located between the Terranea Resort and the Point Vicente Lighthouse. The closure will extend until Friday, August 29th. The parking lot, viewing areas and restrooms at the park will remain open during regular park hours (i.e., dawn to dusk).
Please be extra cautious if you are visiting any of the south-facing beaches in the city this week (including Rancho Palos Verdes Beach, Portuguese Bend Beach Club, the Terranea Resort and Pelican Cove). The city and the Abalone Cove Safety Task Force appreciate your understanding and cooperation in following the instructions of county lifeguards, sheriff’s patrols and city Recreation & Parks staff.
