SAN PEDRO, CA -- A man shot and killed a woman in San Pedro and then fatally shot himself, authorities said Friday. Officers were sent to Gaffey and 36th streets about 8 a.m. Thursday after passersby found the pair dead in a van that was parked at a scenic overlook, the Los Angeles Police Department reported. The man shot the woman once and then turned the gun on himself, police said. The woman was identified as Rocio Avila-Argueta, 43, of Wilmington, coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter said. The man's name was withheld, pending notification of kin.
