Missing Persons Search Suspended After Overturned Kayak Found

An overturned Kayak led to a U.S. Coast Guard search for a possible missing person; search suspended after no reports of distress.

SAN PEDRO, CA – The search for a possible missing person in the water near Long Point has been suspended by the U.S. Coast Guard after a yellow kayak was found, authorities said Thursday. The search was suspended after search efforts yielded no results, and no reports of distress were received related to the overturned kayak, officials said.

At about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, officials received word of the overturned kayak, about 13 feet in length, in the water. The model had the words "Perception Sport" written on the side. The Coast Guard dispatched a 45-foot vessel in response and a FMH-65 helicopter to search for a possible person in the water.
