The Peninsula Boys JV Team took on mighty Westchester in the semi-final round of the Trevor Ariza Tip-Off Tournament. The Panthers fought hard and continued to battle the entire game but the over-all size of Westchester proved to be too much for the Panthers. The game started and Peninsula appeared to be in a state of shock. The Westchester Comets took advantage of this and their physical size and raced out to an 18-8 lead to end the first quarter. Peninsula started to relax and play their game and fought hard in the 2nd quarter and moved to within 5 points at half-time trailing 33-28. The Panthers then came out of the gate fast in the 3rd quarter and took Westchester by surprise and closed the gap to 3 several times throughout the 3rd quarter. The Panthers were racking up personal fouls which would eventually catch up to the Panthers in the 4th quarter. The size of Westchester created huge problems for the Panthers who were being out rebounded on both ends of the court. The 3rd quarter ended with the Panthers trailing 51-43. The fourth quarter began with both teams trading baskets and then the fouls began hurting the Panthers when 3 of the bigger players fouled out making the task of keeping the taller Westchester players off of the backboards. The Panthers battled throughout and lost in the end 72-61. The Panthers now are 2-1 on the season and face the Bishop Montgomery Knights at 5:45 PM on 11-30-13 in the consolation game. The Panthers will be playing without their biggest player, Kyler Tabazadeh who took an elbow to the mouth in the Westchester game and is unavailable.
