Peninsula National Charity League Celebrates Seniors Of 2019

The annual Medallion event recognized the 21 young women for their six years and 12,000 hours of community service.

PALOS VERDES, CA – The Peninsula Chapter of National Charity League celebrated the group's Class of 2019 graduating seniors at its annual Medallion event held last month in Beverly Hills. Working with the philanthropic, mother-daughter organization for the past six years, the 21 young women dedicated more than 12,000 hours to community service.

“It takes a village to raise a child, and the Peninsula Chapter of National Charity League is a close-knit group of dedicated mothers working together to raise compassionate leaders, who are equally comfortable at cultural events and volunteering at philanthropies,” said Lydia Ho, president of the NCL Peninsula Chapter.

Throughout their teen years, the girls served the area through several projects including working with special-needs and underprivileged children, providing clothes, meals, child care and mental-health and hospital support to those in need, according to the organization.

Their efforts also included assisting occupational therapists, special-needs teachers, at summer- school programs and playing bingo with the elderly. The girls staffed walks for Mothers Against Drunk Driving, provided gifts to the military through Operation Homefront, knitted hats for premature babies and helped find homes for animals.

Environmental and arts service saw the young volunteers restoring habitat through Palos Verdes Land Conservancy and Heal the Bay, ushering at the Palos Verdes Performing Arts theater, volunteering at Palos Verdes Art Center and serving as docents at the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium.

The organization's mothers and daughters also worked at the chapter’s Ticktocker Thrift Shop in San Pedro, which over the past six years raised more than $1 million for charities and college scholarships.

The 61-year-old Peninsula Chapter is made up of mothers and their daughters in grades 7 to 12. For more information on the group, visit www.nclpeninsula.org.
