Peninsula's JV Boys Continue to show their youth vs. Inglewood HS

On Monday night the Peninsula JV Boys Team took on Inglewood HS in a preview of what is to come next season when Inglewood HS and Morningside HS join the Bay League. The Peninsula Panthers are very young this season and their youth and inexperience are glaring right now. The Peninsula Panthers are struggling to grasp the defensive schemes on the JV level and they are not doing a good job on defensive backboards either. The Inglewood team came out and simply outworked the Panthers on their offensive backboard and took a 14-9 lead after one quarter.

The second quarter began with the same struggles for the Panthers and their shooting touch seemed to be intermittent and this trend continued on throughout the entire first half. The end result was an Inglewood HS lead of 20-19 at the half.

The third quarter began and everyone could see a more focused and driven team and the Panthers began attacking the basket and boxing out and playing better team defense. The Panthers maintained this throughout the entire quarter and outscored Inglewood 16-12 to take a 35-33 lead heading into the fourth and final quarter.

The fourth quarter began and it was apparent that the young Panthers had fallen into the same routine that they started the game with and their shooting had left the building. The Panthers were out played in the fourth quarter and they could only manage to score 5 points in the final quarter. The Panthers now sit at 2-4 on the season and do not play again until January 2nd, 2014 in the El Segundo JV Christmas Tournament. Hopefully, the Panthers will regroup and improve in the areas they are struggling with.
