Portuguese Point, Sacred Cove and Inspiration Point Still Off Limits Through Labor Day

Los Angeles County lifeguard say there are still safety concerns with rough waters.

From the city of Rancho Palos Verdes:

Due to continuing strong ocean swells, the Abalone Cove Safety Task Force has extended the closure of Portuguese Point, Sacred Cove and Inspiration Point until sunset on Monday, September 1, 2014.

Although the swells have decreased from earlier in the week, there is still a significant amount of wave energy to create a hazardous condition. In addition, the longer periods of time between the large sets of waves are more dangerous, as they can catch beach goers by surprise.

Abalone Cove Beach is proposed to remain open at this time, as County Lifeguards will be on duty. The public is requested to obey the posted signs and follow the instructions of County Lifeguards, Sheriff’s Deputies, Park Rangers and City Parks & Recreation Staff.
