Ramzi Awwad Named Director Of Public Works

The City of Rancho Palos Verdes today announced the selection of Ramzi Awwad as Director of Public Works.

Mr. Awwad has served as Deputy Director of Public Works since September 2020, overseeing the environmental review process for the Portuguese Bend Landslide Remediation Project and the scoping of a citywide speeding and traffic safety analysis. He has also implemented new controls for capital projects and identified process improvements for service requests to shorten response times to residents.

“When Ramzi joined the City last year, he hit the ground running and demonstrated a strong commitment to the community through his professional demeanor and communication skills,” said City Manager Ara Mihranian. “The organization and the community will benefit from his leadership.”

Mr. Awwad said he is “thrilled about the opportunity to serve such a wonderful community in my new role.”

Mr. Awwad’s promotion is effective immediately. He assumes a position that has been vacant since August 2020, when former Public Works Director Elias Sassoon left the City to hold the same position in El Segundo.

Prior to joining the City, Mr. Awwad was engineering bureau chief in Arlington County, Virginia.

Mr. Awwad brings 17 years of experience in planning, engineering, constructing, and maintaining public works infrastructure in Virginia, Arizona, and Indiana. He holds a master of science degree in transportation engineering and a bachelor of science degree in engineering, both from Purdue University.
