Rancho Palos Verdes Considers Curbing 'Meetup Groups'
City Council is considering two new ordinances to help ease the problems of limited parking, traffic, and crowds.

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CA – The Rancho Palos Verdes City Council has some new potential ordinances to consider: one meant to curb "meetup" hiking and workout groups, and another to ban the consumption of alcohol in public places. These efforts are meant to help ease the problems of limited parking, traffic, and crowds that have surfaced now that the internet has made Rancho Palos Verdes a destination city, according to the Daily Breeze.
“The whole Peninsula, now that we are on the internet … if you go to the switchbacks, you’re going to see they’re more crowded than ever,” Mayor Susan Brooks said at Tuesday’s council meeting.
Neighborhoods are regularly filled with cars and traffic from hikers and people trying to use the facilities, according to city staff. The revisions to the special events ordinance would establish stricter parameters around the maximum size of a group that would need a permit and the maximum number of people in an area, the newspaper reported.
