South Bay Man Hit, Injured While Crossing Street

The driver did not appear to be under the influence at the time of the accident.

TORRANCE, CA - A man hit by a car while walking outside of a crosswalk in Torrance on Wednesday was hospitalized with serious injuries, police said.

The 35-year-old pedestrian was struck at 12:32 a.m. near Artesia Boulevard and Prairie Avenue, according to Lt. Kyle Goffney of the Torrance Police Department.

The man, whose name was not released, was crossing Artesia Boulevard northbound when he was struck by a Toyota Corolla traveling east on Artesia Boulevard on a green light, Goffney said.

The man was treated by officials at the scene and transported to a hospital in critical condition, Goffney said.

The 31-year-old driver of the Corolla was not injured and did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol, police said.
