Thousands Of California Sex Offenders Could Be Released
A judge made a preliminary ruling ordering prison officials to rewrite Prop. 57, which would allow the early release of sex offenders.

CALIFORNIA -- A California judge last week ordered prison officials to rewrite Proposition 57, which could allow for the early release of roughly 10,000 sex offenders. The preliminary ruling would even affect sex offenders convicted of "pimping children," according to the Associated Press.
The ruling comes after California Reform Sex Offender Laws filed a lawsuit stating Proposition 57, which was passed by voters in 2016, encourages the rehabilitation of inmates.
However, "Gov. Jerry Brown promised voters all sex offenders would be excluded," according to Associated Press.

Sacramento County Superior Court Judge Allen Sumner said "the scope of exclusions should be narrowed to only those now serving time for a violent sex offense," the article read.
"The judge said those who already served their time for a sex crime, even a violent one, and now are imprisoned for a different crime should be eligible for early release," the Associated Press reported.
