3 Injured In Pasadena Police Shooting, Including Officer

PASADENA, CA — Three people, including a Pasadena police officer, were injured during a police shooting Thursday night that remains under investigation, authorities said.

The incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. in the 200 block of North Oakland Avenue, near Walnut Street, according to the Pasadena Police Department.

An officer and two people who were inside a vehicle — the driver and a passenger — were taken to a hospital following the encounter, Pasadena police Lt. Monica Cuellar said.

None of the three suffered gunshot wounds, police told NBC Los Angeles. All sustained minor injuries and were expected to survive. The officer was released from the hospital around 11 p.m., according to Cuellar.

Video from the scene showed a black Audi with multiple bullet holes. Footage also showed a large police presence, with officers carrying rifles and the area cordoned off with crime scene tape.

Three officers assigned to the department's special crimes unit were conducting an operation in the area when the shooting occurred, Cuellar said.

The unit handles gang-related investigations and quality-of-life issues, according to Cuellar.

Police did not immediately disclose the nature of the operation, what prompted the shooting or how the officer and the two civilians were injured.
