Abandoned Chickens Land at Pasadena Humane Society
Information is sought about who left the six hens in a La Crescenta wash.
PASADENA, CA -- Why did the chicken(s) cross the road? To find some help!
That seemed to be the case in La Crescenta this week as a Good Samaritan spotted some chickens -- six of them -- in a wash. The discovery was reported to the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA; by the time PHS Animal Control arrived on scene, the female chickens had traveled out of their cage and were making their way toward the street.
All six hens were located and safety transported back the Pasadena Humane Society where they underwent medical evaluations, according to a news release Friday from Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA.

Shelter officials are searching for the person or persons responsible for leaving the hens in the wash.
"The chickens appear to be eating well, but are thin with missing feathers," shelter officials stated. "Their beaks are worn down and some have bodily injuries."

The Pasadena Humane Society hopes the chickens will make a full recovery with a healthy diet and medical intervention.
"We are grateful that someone found these abandoned chickens when they did," said Julie Bank, President/CEO of the Pasadena Humane Society. “They may have not survived the night in an area frequented by native wildlife."
Bank added that as backyard chickens become more and more common, they have become regular visitors at the Pasadena shelter.
"People don’t always associate chickens with animal shelters, but I assure you we usually have at least one available for adoption at any given time," she said.
As soon as the chickens are healthy, they will be placed up for adoption along with the others at the shelter.
Families thinking of bringing one or more home should note the care and commitment required, as well as the regulations of their city and/or county when it comes to chicken ownership, according to shelter officials.
