1. Officer, two others injured after Pasadena police open fire; no one struck by gunfire (abc7.com) — Pasadena residents may notice a heavy police presence after officers opened fire Thursday night on North Oakland Avenue, leaving an officer, a driver, and a passenger hospitalized with non-life-threatening, non-gunshot injuries. Authorities say the incident happened during a police operation and involved an Audi SUV riddled with bullets and apparently crashed with a pickup, with the circumstances still under investigation.
2. Secretive High-Security LA Landmark Will Open Free to the Public for Just Two Days (pulptastic.com) — NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena will briefly open its high-security campus to the public for a free Explore JPL open house on Oct. 10–11, with limited tickets that may reappear as cancellations occur. Visitors can tour mission control, see full-scale spacecraft models, and explore cutting-edge robotics and microdevices labs at this rare, locally accessible event.
3. New app to provide California wildfire updates directly from local fire agencies (pasadenastarnews.com) — Pasadena residents will soon have a new way to track nearby wildfires and emergencies as the AwareCA app rolls out statewide, with the Pasadena Fire Department planning to push real-time evacuation orders and updates directly to users. The free app lets you monitor up to 10 locations, see fire perimeters, road closures, aircraft activity, and official posts from participating agencies across California.
4. CALTY Challenges Design Students to Redefine Lexus Performance (lexus.com) — Design students at Pasadena's ArtCenter College of Design are teaming up with CALTY Design Research to imagine what Lexus performance cars could feel like decades from now. The project gives local students rare access to a professional Newport Beach design studio, mentorship from working designers, and hands-on experience turning futuristic concepts into detailed models and digital renderings.
