Boxing Legend Oscar De La Hoya's Pasadena DUI Charges Dropped

A DUI case was dismissed Tuesday against former professional boxer Oscar De La Hoya, who had been accused of drunken driving in Pasadena.

PASADENA, CA — A DUI case was dismissed Tuesday against former professional boxer Oscar De La Hoya, who was charged in connection with a traffic stop last year by the California Highway Patrol in Pasadena.

Two misdemeanor DUI charges -- one count each of driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 or above - - against De La Hoya were dismissed after a defense motion was granted in a Pasadena courtroom, according to the Los Angeles Superior Court's Public Information Office.

De La Hoya was pulled over for allegedly speeding in his Land Rover just before 2 a.m. one night last January in Pasadena, according to the California Highway Patrol.

De La Hoya was driving his Land Rover along Del Mar Boulevard when a CHP officer pulled him over for allegedly speeding. According to the arrest report, the officer smelled alcohol on De La Hoya and conducted a series of sobriety tests. De La Hoya failed the tests and was taken into custody, according to police.

He was cited and released to his manager.

According to TMZ, De La Hoya has a long history with substance abuse problems, and he was seen hitting the bars such as Barney's Beanery in Old Town Pasadena Tuesday night before he was arrested.

De La Hoya's attorney could not be reached for immediate comment on the dismissal.

The former boxer was charged last March in connection with the Jan. 25 traffic stop.

De La Hoya -- known by the nickname "The Golden Boy" -- won the gold medal in the lightweight division at the 1992 Summer Olympics and won several world titles in six different weight classes before his retirement.
