Sarah McQuaid’s lush, velvety voice combines with her engaging personality and “brilliant musicianship” (fRoots)
on acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards and (occasionally) drum to
create a truly immersive experience. Her live performances are full of
warmth, wit, and intimacy, and have earned her loyal followings on both
sides of the Atlantic.
Born in Spain, raised in Chicago, holding dual Irish and American
citizenship and now settled in rural England, she brings the eclecticism
of her background to her “captivating, unorthodox songwriting” (PopMatters)
and choice of material. From contemplative ballads to playful blues to
atmospheric instrumentals, Sarah’s music invites reflection, connection,
and a deep appreciation of the quiet power of a well-crafted song.
In April 2017, Sarah was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Ards International Guitar Festival
in Newtownards, Northern Ireland (previous recipients include legendary
guitarists Davey Graham, John Renbourn, John Martyn, Martin Simpson,
Pierre Bensusan and Martin Carthy) in recognition of her innovative use
of DADGAD tuning and her authorship of the Irish DADGAD Guitar Book. Presenting the award, Ernie McMillen of Avalon Guitars said “It
is rare in the guitar world to find a player who displays genius
without arrogance, and who shares their hard-won skill and knowledge so
selflessly. I get to see many specialist guitarists up close, and many
over-perform. It’s honey for the soul to witness Sarah McQuaid perform.”Advanced tickets including fees: Adult tickets are $33.85 and Caltech students/youth through high school are $12.51.

The Gooden School: Academic Excellence Since 1975

The Gooden School

The Gooden School is an independent Episcopal school serving students in transitional kindergarten through eighth grade in Sierra Madre, California. Founded in 1975, Gooden has spent more than five decades nurturing curious minds, strong character, and a lifelong love of learning within a close-knit and supportive community. At Gooden, academic excellence is paired with a deep commitment to personal growth. Small class sizes, dedicated faculty, and an engaging curriculum allow students to be known, challenged, and supported as individuals. From the earliest years through middle school, students develop critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication skills that prepare them for success in high school and beyond. Rooted in the school’s Episcopal identity, Gooden welcomes families of all faiths, backgrounds, and perspectives. The school’s guiding principles, known as the 3Rs—Respect for Self, Respect for Others, and Respect for the World—are woven throughout daily life and serve as the foundation for character development, leadership, and service. Students are encouraged to become compassionate citizens who understand their responsibility to contribute positively to their communities and the wider world. The Gooden experience extends far beyond the classroom. Students participate in a rich array of programs in the arts, athletics, technology, outdoor education, world languages, service learning, and leadership development. Signature traditions, meaningful chapel experiences, and opportunities for public speaking, performance, and teamwork help students build confidence and discover their unique strengths. Families are an essential part of the Gooden community. Strong partnerships between parents, faculty, and staff create an environment where students thrive academically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. The school’s welcoming culture fosters lasting friendships and a strong sense of belonging.
