California Proposition Results 2018

Voters favored four of five propositions, rejecting a a constitutional amendment requiring a supermajority vote on cap and trade spending.

LOS ANGELES, CA — California voters were in the mood to pass four of the five measures on the statewide ballot Tuesday. With all precincts counted, voters approved all but a constitutional amendment requiring a supermajority legislative vote on plans for spending cap and trade revenue.

Proposition 68, Natural Resources Bond: 56% Yes, 44.0% No

Proposition 69, Transportation Revenue: Restrictions and Limits: 80.4% Yes, 19.6% No

Proposition 70, Greenhouse Gas Reduction Reserve Fund: 36.4% Yes, 63.6% No

Proposition 71, Ballot Measures: Effective Date: 76.8% Yes, 23.2% No

Proposition 72, Property Tax: New Construction: Rain-Capture: 83.3% Yes, 16.7% No

Proposition 68, the statewide bond measure, has the support of environmental groups and is opposed by conservative taxpayer groups.

Proposition 69, or the lockbox amendment, requires lawmakers to spend new gas tax revenue on transportation projects.

Proposition 70 is a constitutional amendment that would require a legislative supermajority vote in 2024 to pass a cap-and-trade spending plan.

Proposition 71 would amend the state constitution so that new ballot measures take effect five days after election results are certified.

Proposition 72 would allow lawmakers to exclude new rainwater capture systems form property tax assessments.
