Caltech tops Southern CA list of the best colleges in California

Seeking out the best colleges in California? The US News & World Report rankings were released in September, with Caltech topping the list of universities in Southern California.
Caltech came in 12th (tied with Northwestern University) on the top universities listing, making it the top school in Southern California on the list. However, if you look at California overall, it comes in well behind Stanford, which tied for No. 5 on the top universities list.

Caltech also ranked first on the UK’s Times Higher Education’s WOrld University Rankings for 2015-2016, above the University of Oxford. You can read about that in my previous blog article: “Caltech tops world university rankings”
According to US News and World Report, its rankings focus on academic excellence, with schools ranked on up to 15 measures of academic quality. Overall, the rankings emphasize student outcomes – including graduation and retention rates – which carry the most weight at 30 percent. The top National Universities and National Liberal Arts Colleges had significantly higher graduation and freshman retention rates than other schools.
