Critically Acclaimed, Award-Winning Authors At 8th Annual Pasadena Festival of Women Authors Saturday, April 9, 2016
The festival provides a stimulating setting where authors and guests interact with each other and authors are available to answer questions.
The Pasadena Festival of Women Authors (PFWA) will be held Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Pasadena Hilton Hotel and will feature 7 award winning, nationally acclaimed fiction authors, including Jane Smiley, author of the Pulitzer-Prize-winning novel, A Thousand Acres and Kristin Hannah, author of The Nightingale, the 2015 Goodreads Historical Fiction Choice Award.
Also speaking at the event will be Victoria Patterson and Maggie Shipstead. For the first time there will be breakout sessions with debut novelists Cynthia Bond, Jan Ellison and Nayomi Munawerra. The authors’ recent books cover a wide range of times and locales from the challenges of women surviving in Nazi occupied France in the Nightingale or the 100 years of living off the land in Iowa as covered in Smiley’s trilogy, the final installment of which, Golden Age brings us to 1987. Many of the participating author’s books feature strong female protagonists that challenge convention intentionally or accidentally as events push them towards change.
Each author at the daylong event will share with the audience their personal experiences and their journey as writers. Listening to women authors speak about their approach to craft and how this led to books that they have written creates a day of inspiration and connection between author and reader. As Kristin Hannah shared, “Honestly, there’s nothing better than being in a room full of readers. Books are such a wonderful way to bring women together. One discussion leads to another and soon we are sharing our lives. I am always amazed by how much we all have in common.”
