PASADENA COMMUNITY ORCHESTRA CONCERT FEATURES YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION WINNER TIANPENG YU, AND STRAVINSKY’S FIREBIRD SUITE
This free concert bursts with the vitality and enthusiasm of youth, featuring a brilliant young soloist and works written when the composers were in their twenties. Young Artist Competition winner Tianpeng Yu (age 22), performs a 20-year-old Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E Minor. The concert’s major work is the Firebird Suite of Igor Stravinsky (then age 28), displaying the rhythmic dynamism, vivid orchestral colors, and primitivism for which the composer became famous. Rounding out the program is the beguiling overture to The Abduction from the Seraglio by a 25-year-old Mozart. A reception follows the concert, at which audience members will have the opportunity to meet the soloist and the other musicians.
Concert made possible in part by the Pasadena Arts & Culture Commission and the City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division and by a grant from the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts.
