Iconic Rialto Theatre finding new life

The iconic Rialto Theatre in South Pasadena, also known for its role int he movie "La La Land," is finding new life under the oversight of Mosaic. The church with several locations in the LA area has leased the theater from its owner, and has plans to restore it to its former grandeur, or as close to it as can be managed.

The Rialto was built in 1925 as a single-screen theater that presented a combination of movies and live vaudeville. It fell into disrepair after its previous owner discontinued regular maintenance, and the building closed. Mosaic signed a fifteen-year lease with the new owner, who purchased the Rialto in 2015. After completing initial renovations and receiving a permit from the city, Mosaic started hosting services in the auditorium late last year.

In 1978, the Rialto was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
