Local Veteran Gives Back To Community With ComForCare Home Care Business
Chad Marshall turned tragedy into a growing business that allows him to give back with his ComForCare Home Care

In the late 1990s, U.S. Air Force veteran Chad Marshall lost his father and three sisters in a span of 18 months. Heightening his grief, his mother was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease at the time, losing her primary caregiver upon the death of her husband. Yet the tremendous losses did not break Marshall. Instead, the experiences that caused him so much pain served in the end to inspire Marshall to a new calling: that of owner of ComForCare Home Care at 3436 N. Verdugo Rd. Ste 101 serving the Pasadena, Glendale, La Canada Flintridge, and La Crescent.
Marshall’s opening of his ComForCare location in July, 2009 was the culmination of a journey that was an often tumultuous, yet in retrospect, always tremendous learning experience for the veteran-turned-entrepreneur. A broadcast video engineer by trade, Marshall spent four years of active duty working in broadcast maintenance for the Air Force where his duties included documenting missile launches and fixing television equipment. Upon completion of his four-year tour of duty, Marshall worked for Panasonic Broadcast and Television Systems Company for 16 years. Caught up in Panasonic’s downsizing efforts in 2009, however, Marshall faced some tough choices.
With his loved ones forever on his mind, Marshall ruminated especially on what his mother endured as she battled Alzheimer’s and how the death of his father impacted her care. Using the experience as a lesson on the plight the sick and elderly face when they need extra care, Marshall knew that his past could help him ensure a better future for others in a similar situation.

“Seeing what my mother went through really opened my eyes to the need for quality in-home care for the sick and elderly,” says Marshall. Making good on his desire to provide a better environment for those who need special care, Marshall opened the doors of his ComForCare business to great success. This success, says Marshall, should long endure. “The medical industry is going through an overhaul. Its transformation will be creating incentives for doctors to recommend more preventive services to minimize the need for patients to visit a doctor or hospital. Moreover, by 2030 the number of people on Medicare is expected to reach 76 million.”
Marshall recognizes the in congruence that may be seen between his military and technology background and his new career. But, he says, one should not be quick to make assumptions about him. “It may seem like an unlikely pairing and a far reach from digital compression schemes and data rates,” says Marshall. “But underneath the techno geek is a compassionate, caring person who really loves supporting our senior population by helping them keep their dignity and independence.”
