Ever feel like you need a night out? You’re not the only one. In fact, there’s a nationally organized celebration of motherhood to support you, and it will take place May 8th! National Mom’s Night Out intends to unite today’s moms physically and virtually. A combination of more than 150 social media groups, companies, playgroups, bloggers and networks are giving moms a much deserved night off.
This spotlight on ‘giving mom a break’ raises the question “what can you do year-round to help lighten mom’s load?” There are a few things that come to mind:
· Delegate. Mom’s to-do list is never-ending, but with a little help from the family you can divide and conquer, resulting in more time to spend together and enjoy!

· Find a community. It’s helpful to have a group of like-minded friends who are also moms and can share parenting roles like carpooling and play dates. Plus, they are an excellent resource for support since they are experiencing similar things as you.
· Set aside “me time.” A pre-determined time to catch your breath and focus on you will help your productivity and mental health all around.

· Consider hosting an au pair. When you have a lot on your plate and a hectic schedule, you most certainly feel like you need a break! An au pair can help offset some of the responsibilities you have to make day-to-day activities run much more smoothly. Since your au pair lives with you and is committed to 45 hours per week of childcare, you have full time support and built-in flexibility.
In the meantime, you can find a local or online event at the National Mom’s Night Out website. The campaign is timed with the premiere of the movie Moms’ Night Out, which is out this Mother’s Day weekend and you can find show times here.
