Pasadena real estate contributes to $1M-plus home sales

Sales of Pasadena real estate were among high-dollar purchases that set a record in California for 2013. According to an article on LATimes.com, 39,145 homes across the state were sold for $1 million or more, a six-year high.

A Malibu estate topped the luxury sales with its $74.5 million price tag, based on information from DataQuick.


The number of homes that sold at $2 million and up also set state, Southern California and LA County records, according to the article headlined “Sales of $1-million-plus homes went through the roof in California.”

A combination of appreciating home values and celebrity purchases have been cited for the record-setting numbers.

The Pasadena area recorded its share of $1 million-plus home sales.  Based on numbers in the Pasadena-Foothills multiple-listings service,  December ended with 22 sales of $1M-plus homes in Pasadena; 14 in San Marino; and 14 in La Canada Flintridge.


Over the course of 2013, the Pasadena real estate market saw 283  sales of $1 million or more. San Marino sold 139 $1M-plus homes for the year, and La Canada brought in 191.


Several communities in the area -- including South Pasadena, San Marino and La Canada Flintridge -- have a median home price in excess of $1 million, as of this week.  It’s not uncommon for homes in Pasadena and surrounding areas to draw such prices.
