A neighborhood public safety meeting will be held Saturday at the scene of a shooting in Pasadena that left a man in his 30s dead.

Police will tell residents what action they are taking and what residents can do to keep themselves and their family safe, according to Vannia De La Cuba, field representative for Councilman Victor Gordo.

The hourlong meeting is planned to begin at 11:30 a.m. at Orange Grove Boulevard and Mar Vista Avenue, De La Cuba said.

Officers responded at 8:42 p.m. Thursday to a report of shots fired, said Pasadena police Lt. Ed Calatayud.

The victim, a man in his 30s whose name was withheld pending family notification, died in a woman's arms, the Pasadena Star-News reported.

The death has been listed with the coroner's office as possibly gang-related, Assistant Chief of Operations Ed Winter told the Star-News.

The man was found between the sidewalk and curb in front of a house, and police cordoned off the area around the shooting scene between North Maple Street and East Orange Grove Boulevard, Calatayud said.

The newspaper reported a witness said the victim was standing alone in the area when a gunman approached and fired about five shots. The victim, wounded, started to run away but fell nearby and was shot two or three more times while lying in the street.
