'Rose Jam' to Close 210 for another 34 Hours Over the Weekend

The Foothill (210) Freeway closure is expected to be the last in a series of major freeway closures for the 210 repaving project.

PASADENA, CA -- The final chapter of what has become known as "Rose Jam" will begin tomorrow night when a stretch of the eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway is closed in Pasadena for 34 hours.

All eastbound lanes of the freeway will be closed between Mountain Street and Lake Avenue beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday and continuing until 5 a.m. Monday.

The eastbound 210 connector to the westbound Ventura (134) Freeway will also be closed, along with the eastbound 210 on-ramps at Lincoln Avenue and Mountain Street.

The closure -- following recent 55-hour closures on the same stretch of freeway -- is part of an effort to repair and repave the roadway.

According to Caltrans, the freeway's use as a major connector between Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties means the "road has experienced extensive wear."

"The closures are part of a $148.5 million pavement rehabilitation project in both directions of I-210 in the cities of Glendale, La Canada Flintridge and Pasadena," according to Caltrans. "Once the project is completed in 2019 the new surface will provide a smoother, safer drive for motorists, reduce time required for maintenance and minimize the need for further lane closures."
