ALTADENA, CA – Volunteers with the Altadena Mountain Rescue Team Friday saved a puppy that ended up stranded on a cliff in Las Flores Canyon in Angeles National Forest after tumbling down a hillside while chasing something.
Rescuers responded about 12:15 p.m. to an area above Altadena, officials said.
"The dog, Maya was on a leash but saw something on the trail which she lunged at, causing her to fall off the side of the mountain," according to a sheriff's department statement. "Her owner attempted to reach Maya, but the hillside crumbled away, and after a few attempts she called (the) Altadena sheriff's station for help."

The team found the 9-month-old Husky mix halfway down a 100-foot cliff, perched on an outcropping of only a few inches, the sheriff's department reported.
As the outcropping began to fall away, Maya was placed into a harness during the tricky rescue and ropes were used to lower her to the bottom of the canyon, officials said.
