PASADENA, CA — Mayfield Junior High School and surrounding streets were placed on lockdown in Pasadena Friday morning while police searched for a stabbing suspect.

A 48-year-old man was stabbed and critically wounded, said Pasadena Police Department spokeswoman Lisa Derderian. The stabbing occurred just after 9 a.m. in front of an apartment building in the 100 block of South Euclid Avenue, and the victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, according to Derderian. The school was place on lockdown, and police closed Green Street and California Boulevard, from Los Robles Avenue to Marengo Avenue, while they searched for a suspect believed to be armed and dangerous.

Officers set up a perimeter containment to search for the suspect, who fled on foot, Derderian said. The block-by-block search involved helicopters and K-9 units, she said.
