Special Veteran’s Day Art Show Event at Villa Gardens

Villa Gardens Retirement Community will be hosting a special Veteran’s Day event on Saturday, Nov. 9 featuring artwork by professional photographer Thomas Sanders.

The event (Honoring Our Heroes: Compelling Photographs of The Villa Gardens Residents Who Have Served Our Country) will be held from 1-3 pm on Saturday. Sanders will be showcasing a collection of photos taken of Villa Gardens residents who have served in the military. He has photographed nearly 500 World War II veterans. His book, The Last Good War: The Faces and Voices of World War II, was published in 2010 and garnered the Editor's Choice Prize for Nonfiction Book of the Year from ForeWord Review.

“Working on this project … has been amazing and surprising because I hear this wide variety of stories,” Sanders said in a behind-the-scenes video posted by Front Porch Retirement Communities. “It’s really important to tell these stories of all the veterans. I really hope that, through this project, we’re able to preserve the stories of the World War II veterans and … give them the opportunity to tell their stories.”
