Sports in Pasadena Will Be Topic of Presentation at Senior Center

Julia Long, founder and tour guide for Pasadena Walking Tours, will lead members of the Pasadena Senior Center on a virtual, multimedia tour of Brookside Park, the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center, the Rose Bowl Stadium and other venues Friday, June 15, at 11 a.m. at the Pasadena Senior Center, 85 E. Holly St., during a presentation about the famed history of sports in the city.

Baseball great Jackie Robinson, Olympic runner Mack Robinson, Olympic ice skating gold medalist Peggy Fleming and tennis champion Stan Smith are among the world-class athletes who grew up in Pasadena and began their sporting careers here, and Olympic swimming gold medalist John Naber has been a Pasadena resident for decades; Brookside Park was the spring training ground for two Major League Baseball teams; the Rose Bowl Stadium has hosted countless events from World Cup Soccer to five Super Bowls; and the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center has been the site of events ranging from 1984 Olympics swimming and diving competitions to U.S. national diving championships.
