Two Pasadena Homes Threatened By Falling Trees

PASADENA, CA — A large pine tree fell onto the attached garage of a Pasadena home and a second pine tree on the property was cracking, leading authorities to red-tag a residence and a garage and yellow-tag another residence.

No one was injured in Tuesday's incident, when a tree at least 50 feet tall toppled over about 10:30 a.m. in the 600 block of Zanja Street, said Lisa Derderian of the Pasadena Fire Department.

The tree fell onto the attached garage of a home, leading authorities to red-tag the structure and to yellow-tag the home, Derderian said.

Subsequently, a second tree on the property was discovered to have cracks and loose roots, and was threatening to fall onto a neighbor's residence, which has been red-tagged, Derderian said.

Inspectors will have to determine a course of action regarding the trees, which are on private property and are the responsibility of the homeowners, Derderian said.

"Unfortunately, I think we are going to see more of it," she said, in reference to heavy winter rains that have followed years of drought, causing numerous trees to topple in the region.
